The Russian "Novosti" agency quoted the Foreign Minister as saying that the Prime Minister's visit "will take place this year and in the coming months. We are now in the process of organizing the visit."

Last July, the Russian ambassador to Baghdad, Elbrus Kurtashev, said that the Iraqi Prime Minister had accepted an invitation to visit Russia, but the date of the visit had not yet been determined.

He added, "Iraq is committed to the security agreement with Iran and expects a similar position from Tehran," noting that "Baghdad hopes to achieve progress in the discussions with Ankara regarding resuming oil exports from the Kurdistan region of Iraq."
