OPEC+, a grouping of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies led by Russia, has been gradually unwinding record oil production cuts agreed in 2020 to counter the demand destruction from the pandemic.

Current plans would see it raise its February production target by 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) as it has done each month since mid-2021.

In a technical report seen by Reuters on Sunday, the group downplayed the impact on the oil market from the Omicron variant.

"The impact of ... Omicron ... is expected to be mild and short-lived, as the world becomes better equipped to manage COVID-19 and its related challenges," the Joint Technical Committee (JTC) report said.

"This is in addition to a steady economic outlook in both the advanced and emerging economies," it added.

While the group has been raising its targets, its production increases have not kept pace as some members struggle with capacity constraints.

OPEC+ oil producers missed their production targets by 650,000 bpd in November and 730,000 bpd in October, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said last month.

OPEC will hold a meeting on Monday at 1300 GMT to discuss the appointment of a new secretary general to succeed Nigeria's Mohammad Barkindo.

This would not be possible without the continuous and generous support from international partners such as the Government of Finland," says UNDP Resident Representative for Iraq, Zena Ali Ahmed.

"However, critical stabilization needs remain as over 1 million people are still internally displaced, including the hardest-to-return populations. The Government of Finland's contribution comes at an important time in Iraq's recovery from years of conflict, as the country looks to safeguard the hard-won stabilization gains and prevent ISIL's resurgence," adds Ms. Ali Ahmad.

The leading figure told Shafaq News Agency that the list includes former Prime Minister and head of al-Nasr bloc Haidar al-Abadi, former Minister Mohammad Shiyaa' al-Sudani, Basra Governor Assaad al-Eidani, and advisor to the President of the Republic Ali Shukri.

"Some of the names on the list enjoy the support of al-Sadr. Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi talked on Friday about his government's achievements on the occasion of the new year.

 "We wish that the new year will be a year of good, reform, prosperity, and progress for our people and humanity," Al-Kadhimi said in a statement.

He added, "Iraqis have faced great challenges with courage and steadfastness, and they are capable of creating the future unified."

"The government succeeded in improving Iraq's foreign relations…and returning Iraq to its regional and international role."

The Iraqi PM, added, "It was a good and bad year, during which we presented the White Paper for economic reform, that was well-received by many national and international sectors. It is an action plan for the next five years."

About 2020, he said, "it is the year departing foreign forces from Iraq and replacing them by a group of advisers to support our forces in the war against ISIS."

"Our forces succeeded in eliminating the most prominent leaders of the terrorist organization."

"It is the year of restoring the people's confidence in state institutions, the democratic system, and opening up avenues for social dialogue.".
