U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 50 cents, or 0.6%, to $87.11 a barrel, having declined 74 cents on Thursday. WTI also reached a seven-year high of $88.54 earlier in the session.

Both Brent and WTI are set to rise for a sixth week, the longest weekly streak since October, when Brent prices climbed for seven weeks while WTI gained for nine.

This year, prices have gained about 15% amid geopolitical tensions between Russia, the world's second-largest oil producer and a key natural gas provider to Europe, and the West over Ukraine as well as threats to the United Arab Emirates from Yemen's Houthi movement that have raised concerns about energy supply.

The market is focusing on a Feb. 2 meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies led by Russia, a group known as OPEC+.

OPEC+ is likely to stick with a planned rise in its oil output target for March, several sources in the group told Reuters.

An increase in oil output by producer nations cashing in on expensive crude has depleted the cushion of spare capacity that protects the market from sudden shocks and raised the risk of price spikes or even fuel shortages.

He said he will ally with "whoever puts Iraq's national interests first." That is an indication, Iraqi officials and Western diplomats say, that he may exclude some Iran-backed Shiite blocs in favor of parties with cross-sectarian support.

Brent crude futures were down 57 cents, or 0.9%, to $89.18 a barrel at 0440 GMT, after earlier falling by as much as 1.1% to $89. Brent climbed 2% on Wednesday.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were down 83 cents, or 0.9%, to $86.52 a barrel, after falling by as much as 1.2% to $86.34. WTI gained 2% in the previous session.

"It could be a strong U.S. dollar at play after the Federal Open Markets Committee signalled rates will rise," said Commonwealth Bank analyst Vivek Dhar.

The dollar rose on higher U.S. Treasury yields, lifting the U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback against major peers, to 96.604, near five-week highs.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, that the leadership council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan held a closed meeting today in Sulaymaniyah Governorate headed by the co-chair of the party, Bafel Talabani.

He added that the meeting discussed his candidate for the post of President of the Republic of Iraq, and unanimously approved that Barham Salih be the only candidate for the presidency.

And in the political tradition, during the past presidential sessions, a candidate from the National Union received the position of the Presidency of the Republic.

The leader of the Union, Mahmoud Khoshnaw, said in an interview seen by / the information /, that “the political movement between the Sadrist movement and the coordination framework is still in the process of continuous dialogues, and the movement believes that part of the coordination can participate with it in its project by the majority, while the coordination insists on remaining coherent.” As one unit without fragmentation.

Khoshnaw suggested that “the two parties agree on the personality of the candidate for the position of prime minister, and the Kurds will have their opinion on it,” explaining that “the coordinating framework will not go to the opposition, but will be a supportive part of the government and will not participate in it.”

On Sunday, the independent deputy, Basem Khashan, expected the Federal Court to postpone the decision to decide on the case submitted regarding the first parliament session.

Khashan said in a statement to the “Information” agency, that “it is possible that the decision of the Federal Court will be postponed for the second time,” noting that “the cancellation of the parliament session is very likely for a number of reasons.”

He added that “according to the available data, the decision of the Federal Court to decide on the invitation submitted against the first parliament session will not be issued this week, and we expect that the postponement will be present because of the political differences that are still stuck between the blocs.”

The Federal Supreme Court, earlier, issued a state order to temporarily suspend the work of the Presidency of the House of Representatives elected in the first session of the House on 9/1/2022 until the original case, which is being challenged by the two plaintiffs, members of the House of Representatives “Bassem Khashan” and “Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani” “With the legitimacy of the procedures for electing the Presidency of the Council, whose management the head of the first age was absent.
