NORV   Eventually they will float. And end the auctions and therefore need to have another mechanism in place (such as international trading of the dinar)

NORV   The CBI will then buy/sell blocks of dinar on the international exchange (and make commission) like all other central banks do. This is how the CBI will make money and maintain stability of they dinar. How much the CBI interferes in the price is yet to be seen.

sandyf   @Bobby Cahill Good stuff Kap. The 2% has been a head scratcher for me because I also see this written by the IMF on Exchange Restrictions and Multi Currency Practices...... It was around 2011/12 that the remaining MCP was identified. It was found that invoices from various countries(hence multi currency) were being paid at a rate that deviated by more than 2% from the CBI official rate. Iraq has never positively addressed this issue. Vietnam had exactly the same problem and they introduced legislation that companies could only use the official rate in the accounts, any profit/loss had to be shown separately. The MCP has morphed into various interpretations over the years.

A ceremony was held to formally launch the 'Strengthening the agriculture and agri-food value chain and improving trade policy' (SAAVI) project.

The five-year project worth EUR 22.5 million is funded by the European Union and is being implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in close collaboration with the Government of Iraq and other local partners.

Representatives from public and private sector, innovators, farmers, and development partners attended the event that served as an occasion to discuss opportunities and present solutions to build more inclusive agri-food value chains in the country.

A fast-paced business breakfast opened the day. ITC presented the key findings from the nation-wide market analysis for high potential agri-products. Private sector representatives shared their experiences in the Iraqi market offering ideas to improve the competitiveness of agribusinesses in the country.

Through SAAVI, technical and vocational skills programmes are also strengthened to better match the needs of the private sector.

He also emphasized the significance of collaboration, stating: “We stressed the importance of collaboration and cooperation between the RIPE NCC and the Arab regulatory authorities that led to the smooth development of Internet infrastructure and its security, supporting other vital sectors.”

H.E. Mohammed Al-Zarooni, Acting Director General, Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority in the United Arab Emirates (TDRA), stressed the important role the Internet plays in supporting and developing societies and economies and shared the country’s achievements in 5G and IPv6 deployment.

He praised the RIPE NCC’s efforts: “We recognise that working together and enabling partnerships are key to achieving our common goals and taking us into the future. The RIPE NCC has already convened numerous trainings and webinars in Jordan to increase awareness of IPv6 among a variety of stakeholders, including Internet providers and the private sector. Our commission will continue its efforts to encourage the deployment of IPv6.”

NORV  The one that remains is the 2% spread under Article VIII. They need to maintain 2% or less for 90 day. in the past they have achieved this for periods of time. Shabibi did it for a year, and Alaq did it for about 16 months. But neither exited from XIV to VIII for whatever reasons. The spread is important for multiple reason..such as showing the global banking system they are capable of maintaining a stable environment, and also to eliminate MCPs which is related cost of goods throughout the country.

Every Region, and sometimes every street corner, has a different exchange rate. Now some will say that those vary within a few Dinars of each other but there still has to be a base correct?

If we see a +10 to a +20 IQD variance on the rate from the Auctions to the Banks to the Street, someone has to set the base 2% base or this will continue forever. I get what your saying and accept that but most read your take as that when Iraq is 90 day compliant the switch is flipped. They were compliant for a year and nothing happened. The Chinese side was represented by the Vice President of the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), Mr. Li Daze, whose company will build 679 school buildings, and by Mr. Koo Jun, the regional director of Sinotech, which will build 321 school buildings.

The Iraqi side was represented in by the Executive Director of the Higher Committee for School Construction, Mr. Karar Muhammad.

The contracts follow a memorandum of understanding signed last year with the People's Republic of China.
