It depends on the meaning of the word ‘is’...

By February 1868, President Andrew Johnson had been at odds with Congress for years.

Johnson had been Vice President for barely a month when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1864, and his battles with Congress started from practically

Day 1.

Johnson shared Lincoln’s view that the Confederacy should be swiftly and gently reintegrated back into the Union after the Civil War; neither wanted to penalize the South.

But at the time, Congress was filling up with politicians known as “Radical Republicans” who were anything BUT moderate.

They wanted to punish the South and mandate reunification with all sorts of strings attached-- the opposite of what Andrew Johnson wanted to accomplish.

So Johnson vetoed nearly every reunification bill that Congress passed.

Congress only had one key ally in the Executive Branch-- Secretary of War Edward Stanton, a Radical Republican who did not see eye-to-eye with his President.

And just as Johnson was about to fire Stanton, Congress passed a bill called the Tenure of Office Act, which prohibited the President from firing ANY member of his cabinet.

The law was specifically designed to ensure that Stanton could not be fired-- which is COMPLETELY unconstitutional.

Johnson vetoed the bill, but Congress had enough votes to override his Presidential veto… so the Tenure of Office Act still became law of the land.

Johnson ignored this unconstitutional law and fired Stanton anyhow. And within a matter of days he was brought up on 11 articles of impeachment. In addition to violating an unconstitutional law, Johnson was also accused of:

* Making speeches to the public which were “intemperate, inflammatory, and scandalous...against Congress amid the cries, jeers, and laughter of the multitudes...”

* bringing “the high office of the President of the United States into contempt, ridicule, and disgrace, to the great scandal of all good citizens...”

Mostly, Johnson was severely disliked by these Radical Republicans. He was a southern ex-slave owner… a potent combination that attracted seething hatred from his contemporaries. And his impeachment articles were just code for “We hate this racist **.”

Realistically, though, Johnson’s impeachment was just an attempted coup.

Congress had a policy agenda they wanted to pass, and Johnson kept getting in the way. So they came up with a bunch of silly charges, including the fact that he violated an unconstitutional law, in order to neutralize him.

Johnson was ultimately acquitted by the Senate and finished out the rest of his term. But it still set a precedent.

I know there are countless people losing their minds today because Congress just impeached the President of the United States on charges they find incredibly flimsy.

And there are plenty of talking heads saying that if a President can be impeached on such flimsy charges, that it ‘sets a very dangerous precedent.’

Well, technically this dangerous precedent was set more than 150 years ago; accusations against Andrew Johnson were appallingly flimsy, yet he was still impeached.

In the tenth charge of his Articles of Impeachment, for example, Congress cited a speech Andrew Johnson had given in 1866 in which he said, “God willing, with your help I will veto [Congress’s] measures whenever any of them come to me...”

According to Congress, that simple statement was an impeachable offense… and set a precedent that they can impeach anyone for anything.

So if you think that today’s impeachment charges are too flimsy and set a dangerous precedent, this is really nothing new.

At the same time, there are also countless people losing their minds because they think ‘there’s a crime in progress’ and they want the President thrown out of office immediately.

Well, if you’re going to impeach someone and throw him out because he’s ‘abused his power,’ then you should apply the same standard to EVERYONE.

Politicians invariably abuse power for personal gain. Every time Barack Obama went to a campaign event for his own re-election in 2012, it cost taxpayers millions of dollars between the Secret Service, Air Force One, Presidential motorcade, etc.

Taxpayers foot the bill for his benefit. And every President in modern history has done the same.

These people pardon their friends, elevate campaign donors to important government posts, and lie constantly.

They spend taxpayer resources and pass legislation for the sole purpose of elevating their approval ratings or solidifying their legacy.

Presidents do it. Cabinet secretaries do it. Senators and Members of Congress do it.

And it’s all abuse. Terrible, terrible abuse.

But if people are so juiced up to see one person punished for abuse of power, then why not have a real purge and throw everyone out? I would humbly nominate my 5-week old kitten to take over.

At the end of the day, though, we know this is just more bread and circuses. There’s no chance of anything real happening other than a giant waste of time and money.

Two decades ago they caught then President Bubba Clinton lying through his teeth when he said “I did not have sexual relations with that woman!” and “There’s nothing going on between us,” referring to White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

It was later found that, yes, in fact, Clinton used Lewinsky as a cigar holder. And when confronted about his lie, he had the most remarkable response in US political history:

“It depends on what the meaning of the word is is...”

Francis Albert   To the conversation earlier this morning. My opinion is that the U..S. is not going to be booted out of Iraq, what many do not understand is that the U.S. is Iraq. The U.S. is controlling Iraq and has been since the "Liberation" years ago. This is the whole point of the war. U.S. will "protect" Iraq till the end of time, because Iraq is just the latest U.S. possession in their Empire Building model.

 The situation in Iraq is disintegrating, and it has Iran’s meddling written all over it.
Iraqi protesters broke into the U.S. embassy in Baghdad today, lit fires inside, and then withdrew, chanting “Death to America!” and vowing to camp outside the compound indefinitely until the United States withdraws its forces from Iraq.

The Iraqi protesters are responding to a U.S. airstrike against an Iranian-backed Shiite militia, the Kataib Hezbollah militia, which killed at least 25 of the group’s members and wounded more than 20 along the Iraq-Syria border.

The U.S. airstrike was a forceful, defensive response to Tehran after the Kataib Hezbollah militia had carried out a missile attack on an Iraqi military base last week, killing an American contractor and wounding American and Iraqi service members. President Trump made it clear that the U.S. will not sit idly by as Iran attempts to extend its imperialism into the region. That message was clearly necessary given Iran’s growing hostility toward a U.S. presence in Iraq.

But the protests outside the U.S. embassy in Baghdad seem to be another Iranian maneuver to stoke anti-American sentiment in Iraq. The Iraqi government has made it clear that the U.S. military presence in the region is welcome and necessary despite its unpopularity. Former National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Twitter that this display is “a sign of Iranian control over Shia militia groups, not a sign of Iraqi anti-Americanism.”

It’s likely that the protesters outside the U.S. embassy are not typical Iraqis. They are Iranian sympathizers tied to Iran’s militias in the region, although it's possible that they could also be joined by Iraqi nationalists who would like to see the U.S. gone. This makes the situation all the more combustible. Iran is sending a message to the U.S. that it will not give up its foothold in Iraq, and the U.S. has responded in turn, exacerbating tensions that could explode at any moment.

Trump warned Iraq that its forces must protect the U.S. embassy. Hopefully, the Iraqis will dissolve the protests without any bloodshed. But even if this occurs, it is now clear that Iran and the U.S. are rushing toward a head-on collision — a trajectory that must be addressed if our presence in the Middle East is to continue.    LINK

The Pentagon announced Monday that the United States respects Iraqi sovereignty, while noting that it cannot be deterred from exercising its right to self-defense.

The ministry said in a statement, "The coalition forces supporting the Operation Solid Resolve are present in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi government to ensure the permanent defeat of ISIS and provide advice and assistance to the Iraqi security forces."

"The United States and its coalition partners fully respect Iraqi sovereignty, and support Iraq to be a strong and independent country," she said, noting that "the United States cannot be deterred from exercising its right to self-defense."

She added, "The attacks of the Hezbollah Brigades resulted in the injury of many members of the Internal Security Forces," explaining that "both Minister Mark Esber and Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi have expressed their commitment to the necessity of stopping these attacks on the Iraqi security forces and the forces of Operation Solid Resolve once and for all." ".

She stressed the need "for Iran and its proxy forces in the Hezbollah brigades to stop their attacks on the United States and coalition forces and respect Iraq’s sovereignty to prevent any further defensive actions by American forces," according to the statement.

And US Defense Secretary Mark Esber announced earlier today, Monday, that the United States has taken aggressive measures against a group sponsored by Iran, while US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stressed that "Washington will not stand idly by before the measures taken by Iran, which would expose American men and women at risk. "

The media office of the resigned prime minister released today, Tuesday, a detail of a phone call between Abdel-Mahdi and US President Donald Trump.

"Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi received a phone call at 19:30 from US President Donald Trump, who inquired about the situation in Iraq and the developments surrounding the US embassy in Baghdad," the office said in a statement. The Prime Minister explained that it came after the recent painful events and that he had already explained - two days ago - to the US Secretary of Defense, exploring the seriousness of its consequences.

The Prime Minister stated that the Iraqi security forces continue to fulfill their duty to protect the American embassy and other diplomatic missions and representations.

Speaking of the regional situation, the Prime Minister affirmed that the Iraqi government has always sought to maintain good relations with neighboring countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as friendly western countries, led by the United States of America.

Conditions deteriorate

He added, but the situation deteriorated due to the differences between the two sides and that Iraq wants to be a country of negotiation and calm to remove the danger of war from Iraq and everyone.

Abdul-Mahdi said to the American President: You remember that you do not want war and we hear from the Iranian leaders a similar position, and Iraq has stressed the importance of negotiation or at least reaching realistic arrangements and agreements to calm down.

Direct lines

President Trump stressed his confidence in the importance of the role and leadership of Iraq and what it can play in this regard, and the two Presidents agreed to keep direct lines open between them to follow up on the matter.

US Secretary of State Pompeo and his assistant, David Hill, had contacted Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to follow the latest developments in the country.    link

MZ: I am still trying to find out what truth is in there, but there was a whole lot of chatter on packages yesterday.

Q: Is there one person who says “go” and who? 

MZ:  The closest person you have to that is called The Grandfather” or the leader of “The Dragons” that has the abiity to say”go” by himself……but, The way it is set up, I am told, is there is a committee of about half a dozen that will agree on the “go” time.

Q:  Where is the big arrest that Q said would happen in 2019!!!!!!!!

Member:  Q or Trump have never promised a date some action would happen. They have just given evidence

Member:  the arrests have started. We are all waiting for HRC.

Cottrell had been involved in trying to do the reset for 30 years. President Trump read Cottrell’s documents (summarized from 60 boxes of files), got rid of those who needed to go and signed off on the reset in the Gold Treaty.

There may be times and places where it’s a good idea to talk back to a military officer — but Germany in 1906 wasn’t one of them. So the young corporal didn’t. The corporal — let’s call him Muller — had been leading his squad of four privates down Sylterstrasse in Berlin, only to be challenged by a captain. 

Captain Voigt was in his fifties, a slim fellow with sunken cheeks, the outline of his skull prominent above a large, white moustache. Truth be told, he looked strangely down on his luck — but Muller didn’t seem to take that in.

Like any man in uniform, Captain Voigt appeared taller and broader thanks to his boots, smart grey overcoat and Prussian-blue officer’s cap. His white-gloved hand rested casually on the hilt of his rapier.

“Where are you taking these men?” he barked.

“Back to barracks, sir,” replied Muller.

“Turn them around and follow me,” ordered Voigt. “I have an urgent mission from the “all-highest” command.”
